I found this very educational and agree with much of what is being said here. A lot of my appreciation for yaoi stems from my acceptance and support of gay lifestyle/culture. I've gone from being confused about it to knowing much more through getting to know various people in their gay relationships and seeing that love doesn't have to have a 'gender' basis. First reading yaoi then writing my own yaoi has opened my eyes to a lot of things I have missed and I'm very glad for it.

I'm glad that you use the Trunks and Gohan relationship to explore such deeper ideas as to what it really means for two people to be in love. For years I've seen same sex pairings that seemed obvious to me but others would pass off as my own imagination going wild. It's great to know that I wasn't hallucinating imagining a romantic feel to Vegeta and Goku, or Trunks and Goten. And now as I've seen more of DBZ the Gohan and Trunks relationship. Not only in DBZ but in other media. Heck, I even figured in cartoons such as Danger mouse there was a thing going on between him and his assistant Penfold. That's not anime, but I can see many examples of this sort of dynamic at work, and it's great knowing it's a natural thing to think and expect.
