Chapter 01
He was hot, so very, very hot. He burned, higher level thinking had been abandoned when the burning of his blood began, what seemed an eternity ago to his twisted senses. Everything was felt far, far too much, and yet it was not enough. He could feel every fiber in the jeans he wore, though he could barely remember what they were called, and if asked wouldn't have been able to name their color.He could feel the tiny movements of the hairs falling on his forehead, drifting in the light drafts moving in the room, and had memorized the feel of the restraints holding him down, keeping him from quenching the burn. The discomfort of laying on his tail was mild next to the fire in him. His scent was very strong in the air and only served to remind him of his need to leave, to move.
The most distressing part of his environment, however, was the faint, lingering scent of the one who could stop the burn. It teased him, knowing that if he could only get free, he could quench the fire, and rest. If he hadn't been beyond speech, he would be begging for release. As it was, he whimpered almost continuously as he futilely tugged at his bonds.
Bulma growled in frustration as her most recent test yielded no answers. Absently tightening her ponytail to keep her hair from her face, she decided to do another full scan in the hopes that some new change would give her the information she needed. Watching the machine pass over her son, she involuntarily began to observe his condition.
He looked warm, too warm for the jeans he was wearing. He was continually tossing his head around as if caught in a dream, and tugging at the restraints binding him to the medical pallet. Bulma frowned. So far as she’d been able to determine, he wasn't asleep and hadn't slept since she’d placed him in the restraints. She still didn’t have so much as a clue as to why his tail had grown back. It might be unrelated to everything else.
She sighed, waiting for the scan to finish, thinking over everything that had happened in the hope that she might uncover something new.
Gohan had brought Trunks in over two days ago, unconscious. He’d simply dropped out of the air while they were training and he hadn't been able to wake him. First, she’d tested for a battery of things, from poisons to obscure diseases to head damage, and found nothing. All she’d been able to conclude was that he appeared to be sleeping peacefully and that his system seemed to be running at an enormous pace but that might well be normal. She’d make up for her present ignorance of the Saiyajin medical norms later.
Despite her diagnosis that he was simply sleeping, there was no reason for it. He hadn't looked tired that morning and Gohan agreed with her assessment.
She blinked in surprise as the scan finished and the computer bleeped at her. What the hell? Bulma stepped over to the monitor and opened the report. A match? She’d been wracking her brains for over two days straight and NOW it found something? She scanned the file, then blinked in surprise. WHO wrote it? Vegita?! She’d have to make sure to scan the system for bugs. As she looked it over, Bulma noted that it was dated just a week before he died. Let’s see what he left me..
Later
Bulma sat back from the computer, and blinked at her prone son in shock. He was going through WHAT? And if she didn’t set him loose on Gohan soon. She hoped she wasn't too late. While waiting impatiently for the computer to print a hard copy of Vegeta’s file, she walked over to the controls for Trunks’s restraints and set them to release in 20 minutes. Then, she picked up her papers and went to find her son’s only chance.
