What wins me over here is how completely everyone relaxes around the Dragon Balls. Trunks still looks like Trunks, Piccolo still refuses to look impressed, and Tien appears to be treating the whole arrangement with the solemn discipline of a man balancing the fate of the world on his head. Meanwhile Goku, Gohan and Kuririn are simply delighted.

The four-star ball in Goku’s hand gives the cheerfulness a little extra warmth. Long before Super Saiyans, timelines and world-ending villains, that Dragon Ball connected him to Grandpa Gohan and to the first home he ever knew. Now his own son is laughing beside him while friends gathered from years of battles fill the background.
