This feels less like romance and more like the first tiny bridge toward Truhan: training, trust, and two timelines brushing against each other before the Android Saga turns serious. Do you read Future Trunks here as relaxed for once, or still quietly measuring every second?
Do you read this as playful training, or as Future Trunks still watching the future too closely?

It is that he chooses not to make that knowledge heavy.
The setting could hardly be brighter: Kame House, blue sky, palms, open sea, sunlight strong enough to turn the whole scene into a summer memory. Against that background, Gohan attacks with complete sincerity. He is not performing for history. He simply wants to improve.
Trunks could answer with overwhelming force. Instead, his whole posture feels controlled and almost playful. One raised hand is enough. He is not humiliating Gohan or proving the distance between them. He is calibrating himself around someone younger, someone who has not yet learned what the future will demand.
That restraint carries its own sadness.
Trunks is training with a version of Gohan who has not become his mentor, has not lost an arm, has not died in the rain. The resemblance is present, but the relationship is not. He cannot speak to this boy as though they already share that history. He can only meet him where he is.
So I do not read the scene as the future watching too closely.
I read it as the future deliberately loosening its grip.
For a few minutes, Trunks is not warning anyone, avenging anyone, or carrying the dead. He is simply letting Gohan throw himself into a kick and answering with enough skill to keep the game alive.
That may be the gentlest thing a survivor can do with knowledge:
not reveal it,
not weaponize it,
just make sure the child lands safely.
