This one has a different energy from the heavier scenes. Vegeta is clearly trying to keep his usual glare, but the way he’s holding Goku — arms tight, body leaned in — tells a completely different story. And that tiny heart bubble floating beside him feels like the one honest thing he can’t quite suppress. Goku’s smile, as always, makes it impossible to look away.

I like how the artist captured that classic push-and-pull. Vegeta looks like he’s one second away from complaining about the hug, yet he’s the one who pulled Goku in. Do you prefer seeing him like this — grumpy but unable to hide how much he wants the closeness — or do you like him more closed off and difficult?

What makes this image work for me is that Vegeta is not actually failing to hide his affection.

He is expressing it perfectly—in Vegeta.

The scowl, the blush, the tight arm around Goku’s body, the gloved hand planted possessively in his hair: none of those signals cancel each other out. They form one complete sentence. Vegeta does not need to become visibly gentle for the embrace to be honest. His tenderness still arrives with pressure, irritation, and the vague suggestion that anyone commenting on it will be vaporized.

Goku understands the language immediately.

He does not tease Vegeta into admitting anything or demand a softer version of the moment. He simply lights up inside the hold, completely comfortable with the contradiction. That open happiness is what keeps the scene from becoming only a joke about the grumpy prince. Goku is not laughing at Vegeta’s discomfort. He is enjoying the very particular shape Vegeta’s affection takes.

The bright pink background and floating hearts make the image unusually direct for Kakavege. There is no battlefield to disguise the contact and no training excuse available. The artist removes every respectable explanation until only the hug remains.

And still, Vegeta manages to look as though this is somehow Kakarot’s fault.

Perhaps that is the real charm of the piece:
