I headcanon Cumber was Toma and Bardock’s first cub (Raditz is their second cub, while Goku is Gine and Bardock’s cub. Bardock carried all three of them). Cumber was ‘killed’ by Frieza when he was a small cub and then he was collected by Fu. Fu took Cumber to the past, hence, why Cumber is an ancient Saiyan.
