There you stand watching but disbelieving,
Seeing the struggle as sanity’s leaving.
You could have changed his fate with the choice
That you thought you had to voice.
And he’s screaming, fists raised in rage
Facing the danger, at such a young age.
There’s only the sound of blood through the veins,
As hate takes control and the power now reigns.
You’d never think of a child’s sacrifice,
As you stand there, fear turning you to ice.
There’s a child that will never fight again
As you leave the fate of all for him to win.
There’s a lesson to be learned and a price to pay
As you forget the hero who live that one day,
Not ever now to really be a man,
Because as a child, he made his last stand.
And there’s the danger, the young lives you sacrifice,
For a war that’s too deep in to really roll the dice.
A bet that you had lost, but refuse to admit defeat,
You stand together, but still you’ve been beat.
Look into those eyes now so full of that dark guilt,
You made him what you wanted, the warrior that you built,
But you’ll never know the one he really would have been
Because all you could see was the power within.
You gave away the greatest thing you should have held dear
And now it’s too late to have him face his own fear.
He had fear of not knowing what might have occurred
If that day had settled with evil being undeterred.
Now tell me hero what you learned you lost,
That you have left him to pay the cost.
He’ll burden the blame on his shoulders alone,
Wondering why you wished not to come home.
He’ll step up trying to fill your shoes,
Hope that he does without anything to lose.
He’ll be the man you never were,
There for others in memories at your own inter.
You’ll never see how that will break the heart
As you fly away and tear his world apart.
He’ll bury the rage, hold in all within
Hoping never to have to see it again,
But it’s a monster he won’t be able to control
And eventually once again the rage will take it’s toll.
