Chapter 01
A crow’s shrill call echoes across the barren land. In a flap of wings and flying feathers the crow jerks across the dim red sky. Cry cracked earth extends in all directions with no variation. In the far distance everything stops abruptly and drops off into black oblivion.Then, like a siren slicing through the silence comes a sound. The happy laughter of a small child hangs in the air. Desperate yearning instantly tugs towards the sound. The landscape speeds by in a blur of red and brown towards a smudge of green that borders the darkness. A beautiful oasis comes into view. The laughter grows louder and is joined by another deeper voice.
Two obscured figures appear in a flash of light. The smaller of the figures cries out with joy and speeds forward while the taller of the figures sedately follows. As the figures get close everything dims alarmingly. Twin cries of horror and distress reach into the thickening gloom. A melancholy mix of peace and heavy sadness echoes eternally through the inexorable darkness.
