"Vejita, you know I hate pressing you with such matters, but you’ve recently turned twenty-four and are still without a mate…"

"You say it as if I didn’t know." The prince interrupted with a sarcastic tone, rising from his throne.

King Vejita simply shook his head. There was no point in arguing. He’d just have to be patient with this and hope that his only son didn’t take too long.

Nappa stepped out of the shadows, following his prince out of the elaborate throne room and down several long corridors until they arrived at the training hall. He’d been serving the prince as a bodyguard since his celebrated birth. It seemed pointless to the oversized Saiyajin since the prince was one of the strongest. It was even rumored that the prince was stronger than his own father.

Nappa was tall with bulky muscles. He was loud, bald, and had a thin black mustache. Vejita could barely stand him, but Nappa was the closest thing he had to a friend. Motioning for the bodyguard to join him in a spar, the prince stepped out into an open area.

Vejita was shorter than most with compact muscles. His ebony locks stood on end much like a flame. He was nearly a mirror image of his father. However, the king was taller with a thick mustache and short beard, and his hair had a more brunette tint to it.

The prince found himself in a complex as he and Nappa began their daily spar. Ever since his twentieth birthday, the royals had been urging him to take a mate. But whom should he take? Every woman threw herself at the feet of the prince. He yearned for something more than a companion to bear his children. Besides, he’d been taught his entire life to avoid any and all weaknesses. Strength was everything, and women were weak. There were few that held any strength, but their blood was the rebellious type. He wanted a mate that respected and obeyed him. Of course, the royals could care less what kind of woman he chose, as long se he continued the royal bloodline. That’s all that mattered to them.

"Sire!"

Vejita snapped out of his thoughts in time to realize what he was doing. His teeth were bared, and he was on the verge of firing one of his most powerful ki blasts at the slow-witted bodyguard. The prince quickly powered down, straightening his posture.

"Thank you, sire." Nappa said, bowing slightly. That had been close. His prince seemed to be frustrated and it was showing in their training.

"How long have we been training?" Vejita asked, glancing around to see that the training hall was empty.

"You don’t know?" Nappa asked, puzzled by his prince’s question.

"How long?!" Vejita snapped, glaring up at the taller man.

"Hours. It’s late." Nappa said, pressing a small button on his scouter to see the time.

With that Vejita turned and hurried out of the empty hall, Nappa close on his heals. Like a dog. After a long walk, they came to another wing of the palace. The prince had been given the large section of the palace on his eighteenth birthday. It was practically a smaller version of the palace itself. It was made up of a mess hall, a training hall, and many rooms for elite soldiers and a few for slaves. There was nothing royal about the way it looked. It resembled the inside of a spaceship with metal walls, ceilings, and floors.

Soon they came to a door with no markings to tell it from the many others. Inside was a large common room. Along the dull walls there were three doors, not including the one they’d just entered through. One door led to Vejita’s quarters, another to Nappa’s, and the last led to a large washroom, which they shared.

"Nappa, get me up before the suns rise." The prince said just before stepping into his private room, closing the door behind him. He wanted to get out of the palace before his father or any of the other royals found him. The last thing he needed was to be hounded by those bumbling fools.

"Father, must we put up with these fools every single day?" Vejita said, resting his head in his hands, his elbows on the arms of his throne.

"Yes," the king answered from his much larger throne, "There are treaties and threats to be made."

The prince glared at the numerous slaves and soldiers. It all seemed pointless.

"If you would just choose a mate and produce an heir, then there would be less work to do." The king said under his breath as he signed a tattered document.

"I don’t want to talk about this." Vejita snapped, rising from his seat and storming out of his father’s presence for what felt like the hundredth time this week.

"Nappa," the king snapped, causing the man to step forward rather than following his son out of the room.

"Sire?" Nappa questioned, bowing respectfully.

"Is the prince this way with others as well?"

"I’m afraid I don’t understand." Nappa said, hoping the king was in a good mood.

"Is he constantly this rude?" the king scoffed in a low voice.

"Uh… Sire, Prince Vejita has been this way for years, but you’re right… He seems more frustrated lately." Nappa said, explaining poorly.

"How do you mean?"

"Well, when we spar, it’s like he forgets what he’s doing, and I find myself fighting for my life." Nappa said, remembering the most recent death match. In his thinking, the low-watt soldier didn’t notice the king waving his hand in a manner meaning he was dismissed.

"Nappa! Get out of here!" the king bellowed, watching as the man slowly backed away before rushing out of the room.

After roaming the palace for what felt like hours, Nappa found himself at a loss. The prince was usually always in either the large training hall, or his own smaller one. Finally, he gave up and returned to his quarters.

"My prince, I’ve been looking for you everywhere." Nappa said, surprised to see Vejita relaxing on the dull couch in their common room.

Vejita stirred at the sound of the loud voice. He’d been unable to concentrate on any of his usual training, so he’d retired to the quiet room, where he’d just about fallen asleep.

A simple, "Hn," was all the bulky bodyguard got in reply, "Are you feeling well?" he questioned with concern, taking a seat beside his prince.

Vejita had opened up only a handful of times in his entire life and each time had been with his faithful bodyguard. Nappa was only twelve years older, but to the prince, he was more of a father than the king was.

"This mate nonsense is making me crazy. My father’s constant hinting and the royals always finding me and hounding me." Vejita said, finding himself standing and speaking in a louder tone than necessary.

"Well… Why don’t you just choose a mate?" Nappa suggested. He’d seen the many Saiyajin women who’d come to present themselves to the prince. They were all very beautiful.

"Hn. And who do you suppose I should choose?" Vejita said in an annoyed voice, pacing the floor somewhat.

Before Nappa could even think of an answer, the prince continued, "Every women proclaims to be faithful and obeying. I want…"

"What do you want?" Nappa said, staring curiously at his prince.

"I want… I don’t know… Honesty?" Vejita said through a sigh, plopping back down on the couch.

Nappa could understand what his prince was going through. It wasn’t often that Saiyajin chose mates. Of course, they all had their share of sex, especially with all the beautiful slaves around but to choose a mate was something different. That meant committing yourself to that one person for the rest of your life. First, two Saiyajin decide to mate. Then, dominance was decided, it was usually always given to the male. Next, the dominant one marks his mate, making them one in body and soul. Of course, all of this took place while they had sex, sealing the bond. From that day forth, the two would share a link, a link that connected their minds.

Nappa knew no other way to describe it since he didn’t know anyone who’d experienced it. It was a big decision, and not many had the qualities the prince yearned for. How could anyone be honest with royalty? When answering to a prince, you tell him what he wants to hear or you’ll find yourself dead.

Over the next few weeks, King Vejita watched as his son grew louder, ruder, and more frustrated. As he slouched in his immense throne, he considered all the things that could be troubling his son. Nappa had mentioned something of honesty. That didn’t seem to make much sense though. His son refused the simple task of choosing a beautiful woman to bear his children. Perhaps his son didn’t want to be tied down to just one woman, but that didn’t make sense either. Nowhere did it say that one must remain faithful to their mate. He’d never been faithful to the late queen, who’d died in childbirth. So, what could it be?

As his thoughts wondered, the king watched as a translator stepped out of the throne room, a young male slave following him. It was obvious the young, weak looking Saiyajin was a sex slave, judging by his behavior. It was extremely rare and somewhat degrading for same sex relationships to be made public. Royalty never did it.

Maybe that was it! Perhaps his son was sexually frustrated… Perhaps he yearned for some male intimacy…

"Nappa!" the king snapped, waiting impatiently for the oversized man to step forward.

"Yes, Sire?" Nappa questioned curiously.

"I’ve been thinking… I believe Prince Vejita needs a slave…"

"But, Sire," Nappa interrupted, knowing that that wasn’t the problem, "Prince Vejita has many slaves."

Eyeing the foolish bodyguard, the king growled, "I know very well my son has many slaves. Who do you think provides them?"

"I… Uh… I…"

"Baka… I was trying to say… I believe my son needs a pleasure slave," the king lifted a hand to silence Nappa’s interruption, "Yes, I know he has pleasure slaves, but I plan to get him a male pleasure slave."

Nappa’s eyes grew wide, "Male? Why?"

"This nonsense has to end. There is obviously a problem here. I can see no other reason than perhaps the prince is sexually frustrated." The king said, running a plan through his mind.

Nappa knew well enough that this plan wasn’t going to work. The prince had said it himself… It wasn’t a problem for him to be mated… It was just the stressful decision of choosing the right mate.

"Sire, I think that if you give Prince Vejita enough time, he’ll choose a mate."

"Hmph. Do you really believe that honesty bullshit he told you?"

"Uh…" Nappa stuttered, not sure what his king wanted to hear.

"What he needs, and what I believe he wants, is a male slave…"

"But what if you’re wrong?" Nappa interrupted again.

The king growled, glaring at the fool, "I’ll buy him several new female slaves as well, and I want you to keep this quiet." The king said, realizing that if this got out, his son would be far more than a little embarrassed.

Nappa complied, stepping away as his king gestured with a wave of a hand for him to leave. It didn’t seem that the king was thinking straight.
