It took years for Gohan to admit he loved Mirai Trunks, so when the time traveler finally comes back Gohan muster all his courage and make his confession. But the result isn't what he expected as Mirai Trunks thinks it would be betraying his love for Mirai Gohan and that a jealous Videl is doing all what she can to chase Mirai Trunks away. Will true love win?
‘These things here indicate thoughts. Mirai Trunks will be either called Mirai or Trunks and chibi Trunks will be referred to as Chibi Trunks or Trunks when his older self isn’t around.

Chapter 01
‘I can’t believe he came back. After all of this time he’s finally here again! I have to tell him before he leaves. Maybe if he knows he’ll stay this time.’
Gohan looked over at the time traveler from the destroyed future in complete awe. The last time he saw his love was when he was just eleven years old but even that large space of time couldn't diminish the love he held for him. In fact, it only succeeded in making it grow.
He didn't know what those feelings that he held for the teen were back then. All he knew was that he looked up to the older boy who traveled through time and space to save them all from a horrible fate. He told Trunks that he looked up to him for his courage and strength, and strangely enough the teen told him the same. When he heard that he beamed proudly but still had to ask why.
“You were my everything in my time, Gohan. You were my best friend, my father, brother and teacher….” He then seemed to suddenly stop as if he nearly told something which he shouldn't dare utter. “Strange how it still feels the same when I’m around a younger you.” He laughed out finally.
Gohan smiled at that, feeling overjoyed without knowing why. He loved that he had the older boys respect and vowed that he would be all of those things both him and Chibi Trunks if it would help. But still…what was this strange respect that he held for the other demi? It was like respect, friendship, and admiration all rolled into one. He liked the feeling, but still felt confused at its presence.
When he trained in the Room of Spirit and Time with his father, all he could think of was the lavender haired teen. His sole purpose in that room was to get stronger and help Trunks to save his time. Every time he thought about the torture that the older boy must have gone through, he felt a rage surge through his very being. It combined with the knowledge of his friends future deaths, and his inability to stop it was what made change into a super saiyan for the first time.
When he came out of the Spirit Room, his clothes all torn and wrecked, he never felt so much pride when Trunks looked at him in awe for all of his strength and power or what he thought was for his strength and power.
“What do you think of your teacher now?” He asked the saiyan prince with pride in his voice.
“I think you’re the greatest, Gohan, just like always.” He replied quietly, and with a hint of….sadness?
Gohan’s face fell slightly. What had he done to cause the older boy pain? Was it the fact that he called himself his teacher, when in fact that had never happened yet and may never happen with the changes made? Did he just bring up old and painful memories? He lowered his head in shame. “I’m sorry, Trunks.” He whispered.
The lavender haired teen whipped his head at him in surprise. “For what?” He asked in confusion.
Gohan fidgeted a bit before he answered. “I shouldn't have said that I’m your teacher. I’m not and I shouldn't have said that. Sorry if I said something that upse–”
“No! Not at all!” Trunks said quickly before he smiled reassuringly. “I was just thinking about how I used to be the one who would run up to you like you just did now. And Gohan, you *are* my teacher, even now. You’re the same as you were in my time and will live out the same fate if something’s not done. So don’t worry about it.” He said warmly.
Gohan smiled proudly at this. They proceeded to talk about certain things for the rest of the day, and Trunks even asked him a few questions concerning school. ‘I guess he really does still see me as his teacher.’ He thought happily.
A few days later, when the Cell games were almost over Gohan received the scare of his life as he watched Cell shoot an energy beam through his friend. A real cheap shot that he had to do in the clouds of dust. Rage, hurt, pain, sadness were the only things that ran through his soul as he watched the older boy fall and die.
He wanted revenge, and he took it as he screamed out his sorrow and changed into a super saiyan two and killed the fucking thing that would dare hurt his friend.
He never felt more guilt in his entire life after it was all over and done with. If only he killed Cell when he had the chance. If only he didn't get so stupid and prideful. His father wouldn't of had to sacrifice himself and Trunks would be alive to celebrate their victory with him right now. But they were both gone and it was all his fault.
When Shen Long was summoned and it was wished that everyone killed be brought back to life, Gohan still didn’t think he would see Trunks again. Because he was from a different time line he concluded that even if they were to try and specifically wish him back, the Eternal Dragon would say no, because technically Trunks didn’t die. Chibi Trunks that is. So when the older boy groaned, opened his eyes and sat up, Gohan almost cried in his relief.
***
Soon after his father contacted them, saying that for the benefit of the earth he would stay dead, they all said their farewells and left, but not before Gohan could give the older boy a hug to show how happy he was to have him back.
Trunks looked a little surprised at the hug but then went down on one knee and hugged back warmly. Then they said their own farewells and left. Gohan looked back once, at the teen in the distance as he flew away. He found his face getting hot, but he didn’t that it was because of a blush.
As Trunks said his goodbyes the next day, as he planned on going home to his world, Gohan found himself holding back his tears. Everyone thought that they were from the death of his father but they were wrong. He did feel guilt to an extent over what happened, but his father forgave him and said that he would stay away for the benefit of earth. Not over something he did.
When it came time for Trunks to shake his hand and say goodbye, Gohan held his tears back as best as he could, and even made Trunks promise to come and visit sometime. That said, the lavender haired teens eyes became shiny but he turned away before anyone could see and hopped into his time machine.
As he looked up and watched his friend leave, he could’ve swore that he saw the young prince in tears as he sobbed, and then disappeared into thin air. No. It couldn't be tears. He must have just thought that he saw tears because of the distance they were at, and the light that the machine was emitting. Why would Trunks cry now that he had the power to free his world?
It would be years until he would find out.
It wasn't long after the time traveler had left that Gohan started to feel a little depressed. He wanted him back so badly, but why? What was it that was missing in his soul when the older boy wasn't around?
Some time after he hit puberty, he finally figured it out but only when he started to have wet dreams involving him and his saiyan prince making love to each other. He always woke up right after he came but still with a morning erection that would need a very *long* and very *cold* shower before it would leave.
He was in a state of denial at that point. No way was he in love with another man! After all his mother had told him about finding a girl and getting married, he was in love with a guy? She was going to kill him! He couldn't tell her about these little fantasies that her “baby boy” was having. He could barely admit to himself that he enjoyed them.
Finally, after about a year of waking up early to change his sheets, he went to Bulma.
He asked her what her opinion was on homosexuals and surprisingly she took it quite well. She explained to him how it was just the love that two people share for each other, just like his parents did, and was nothing to get upset over despite the fact that many people still did. He seemed to feel much better about it after that. After all his mother couldn't be right about *everything*, and Bulma did seem to know what she was talking about, where as his mother just seemed to rant at the very topic of it.
The talk helped him to come to terms with his feelings, but it didn’t make the ache in his heart go away. It was more than three years since his love had made him a promise to come and visit, and still there was sign of his return.
Just as he was about to give up hope that he would ever see his prince again, right after he turned eighteen, he came back, and was now standing less then twenty feet away, happily talking to his family and younger self. Bulma had invited everyone over for a welcome back party, and he was currently the center of attention as people came up to him to say hi and shake his hand.
Gohan looked over at him with so much longing in his face. He had to fight to keep from drooling. ‘I only need to get him alone then tell him how I feel. He’s a nice guy so he shouldn't take it too bad if he’s not like that.’ He reasoned with the fearful side of his mind. He was still scared about what he was about to do though.
The only attention he’d ever gotten in that way was found at school. The girls just seemed to follow him around, some of the guys did too. But none of them were worse than Videl. She was a nice enough girl, sometimes, who helped people, but she just couldn't seem to understand what “Sorry, but I don’t want to go out with you” means. Unfortunately, she was here with him right now, and she didn’t like the looks that her almost-boyfriend was giving this guy.
Gohan waited as patiently as he could for everyone to leave him alone for a few minutes before he got up the courage to send Videl off for something and walk up to him. ‘Ok, this is simple, one foot in front of the other, and don’t trip!’ He mentally coached himself as he headed in the direction of his prince.
“Hey, Gohan!” Mirai said cheerfully once he saw him finally approach. He was wondering why his sensei was just sitting in the background doing nothing, and he felt a little disappointed that he didn’t want to speak with him, but was happy to him finally come closer.
He cared a great deal for his master but had to make sure to control himself when he was in this time line. No matter how much he ached at the sight of him or how much they may look alike, this wasn't his Gohan. He was killing himself on the inside whenever he thought about his love for the young man who was now the same age as him. Mirai Gohan was his love, so why was he falling in love with his younger self? He always felt that he was disrespecting his memory when he felt his heart flutter at the thought of Gohan. *His* Gohan had trained him, befriended him, loved him and…..died for him. He couldn't stand the thought that he was so emotionally weak that he found himself betraying his love when he wasn't around. And he hated himself for it.
“Hey there, Trunks.” Gohan said nervously as he approached. “Hey, you cut your hair again!” He pointed out while trying to strike up a conversation. “You should’ve left it long, you looked better like that.” He said without thinking. Mirai just gave him a confused look and Gohan inwardly cursed at himself. ‘Good one you idiot! Insult him why don’t ya?’
“Um, sorry about that.” He said sheepishly.
Mirai just smiled at him. “No problem, I was actually thinking of growing it out longer again anyway.” He said reassuringly.
There was an awkward silence for a minute or two until Gohan finally broke it. “Hey, I was wondering if I could speak to you? Alone?” He asked hopefully.
Trunks seemed to think about it, which turned Gohan into a nervous wreck for the next thirty seconds. Would it be such a great idea to be alone with him? Could he trust himself not to say or do anything? ‘Only one way to find out.’ He thought to himself without too much surety as he nodded his head.
Gohan immediately breathed a sigh of relief. “Alright then, come with me.” He said as he took off into the air. Mirai hesitated for a moment before finally taking off with him. Gohan had to fight off the smile that was trying to plaster itself onto his face. This was it! His chance was finally here!
He picked a nice secluded spot to land. It was actually the place where they had first met after he killed Frieza and told his father about the future, so it somehow seemed appropriate that he should tell him something so important here, too.
“What are we doing here, Gohan?” Mirai asked in confusion. He recognized this place as the spot where he introduced himself to Goku for the first time, but that’s not what was bothering him. It was being alone with Gohan and so far away from any other person. “I have something very important to tell you, Trunks.” He said seriously. “And you have to promise me not to freak out or get mad at me for it.” He finished.
Trunks’s heart went into his throat in shock, as he immediately knew what he had to say. That was exactly what he had said to his Gohan when he confessed that he loved him. ‘Oh no!’
“You see Trunks, I lo–”
“Love me?” He finished for him sadly.
Gohan looked a little shocked, but slowly nodded his head.
Trunks sighed. “You can’t.” He said simply before trying to walk away. Gohan couldn't believe it. ‘I’m *not* letting him walk away that easy!’ He thought as he ran in front of him so quickly that his speed could’ve been compared to instant transmission. Trunks looked at him in shock as he blocked his way with his arms outstretched and demanded: “Why not!?!?”
He frowned at this. “Don’t you have a girlfriend?” He asked suspiciously.
“No.” Gohan immediately replied.
“What about that Videl girl your mom told me about?” He asked.
Gohan rolled his eyes. “She’s a friend of mine that my mother just wants me to date.” He said almost angrily.
“Well then I can’t love you.” Mirai said coldly as he turned away, so that he couldn't see the hurt in his eyes as he cruelly said that.
Gohan’s face fell and he dropped his arms. “W-why?” He choked out simply. He felt as if he was falling when he heard his love say that to him.
“Because I’m in love with someone else.” Mirai said, while trying to show as little emotion as possible.
A few tears slipped down Gohan's face when he heard that. He lowered his head while slowly nodding it in understanding. He should’ve known that someone as beautiful or wonderful as Mirai no Trunks Briefs couldn't go long without having someone to love or love him back. He just had to know one thing. “W-who is it?” He asked sadly.
Trunks hesitated for a moment before answering. He should at least tell him. He owed him that much with the pain he was causing him right now. “The Gohan of my time.” He said slowly.
Gohan shot his head up in shock. “B-but I thought he was dead!” He said in surprise. This at least meant that he didn’t not want him because he was another guy, maybe there was hope.
A few tears slipped out of Trunks’ own eyes at the reminder of his old love from the future. “He is.” he said slowly. “But I still love him, Gohan.” He said determinedly as he turned to face him again. “It doesn’t matter what I feel for you, I can’t betray him like that!”
He blinked. “Then you *do* love me!” He said happily.
Trunks groaned. ‘I am so stupid!’ He though while trying to turn around and walk away again, but once again Gohan ran in and blocked his way. “Is that what this is about? You just feel guilty about moving on? It’s ok Trunks, it’s normal, it’s what people do–”
“Shut up!” He yelled, shaking in anger. “I won’t do it! I won’t forget him like that!”
“You wouldn't be forgetting him!” Gohan yelled back in a desperate attempt to get him to listen. “Do you really think that he would want you to be miserable your whole life!?! He wouldn't, Trunks! Trust me, I know, I’m him!”
Mirai didn’t know what to say to that. It was true but at the same time it wasn't and that’s what bothered him. “Then you should love me, you should fall in love with my chibi self.”
Gohan just gave him a confused look so he continued. “Gohan, I was never meant to be here. If fate wanted me to be here then I would have been born here, but I wasn't. How do I know that if I stay with you I won’t be getting in the way of you falling in love with him later on down the road? Or even someone else! You’re meant to be with someone, Gohan, but just not me.” He said solemnly, hoping to God that Gohan would make this easy on the both of them and just let it go.
His prayers weren't answered, though, as Gohan slowly approached him. “But I love you.” He said quietly and desperately at the same time. There was a pain in his voice and eyes that Trunks found it hard to look at, but he did, and he was totally thrown off guard when Gohan quickly grabbed him, backed him up to a canyon wall and furiously started kissing him.
For a few seconds all thought left him, except for the one that said how much he wanted this as Gohan slid his tongue into his mouth to explore. He soon started to kiss him back with just as much fury and want and then slowly wrapped his arms around his neck, forgetting all of his worries and troubles as they just melted away into nothingness. It just felt so right. However, just as he moaned into his kiss, his eyes widened in shock with the realization of what he was doing.
Trunks frantically broke off the wonderful kiss and pushed him away before flying off as fast as he could, leaving a smoke trail behind him in his haste. Gohan just stood there frozen, unable to believe that his prince had kissed him back and how he’d foolishly scared him away.
***
Trunks continued his fast flight, never stopping and never slowing down in the fear that if he did he would stop completely, turn around and fly back to his loves warm and awaiting arms. ‘I can’t do this!’ He thought desperately as he flew. ‘I can’t betray my Gohan like this! What would he think of me if he knew that I just cheated on him?’
Tears were forming in his blue eyes at the awful thought of what he’d done. He didn’t ask for the kiss, but he wanted it, and that in itself was enough to make him want to die in shame. He still loved his Gohan but he also loved the Gohan of this time. More so even. Was he really forgetting his sensei? Was he moving on with his life?
‘But I don’t want to forget him! I can’t do that to him, he’s done so much for me! I’m so sorry sensei, I didn’t mean to fall in love with someone else! I swear I didn’t!’
He finally landed in Capsule Corp's back lawn and was thankful to see that everyone was finishing the party inside, as he quickly headed for his time machine that was in plain sight in the center of the yard.
Videl, however, was not inside. She was sitting under the shade of a tree while waiting for Gohan to come back, and she wasn’t pleased at all to see the lavender haired brat, that seemed to have her *wishful boyfriend* wrapped around his finger, return first.
She knew that he was from the future, she’d been around long enough to figure that part out. Especially when Gohan's fool of a father told her that the giant egg like machine was a real time machine, and when he pointed it out the along with all the rest of the crazy shit going on in the world, this actually wasn't too far fetched, so she believed him.
As far as she was concerned, whether or not this kid helped to save the world, he was in her way of being with Gohan, and she had to do something about it. “Hey, Trunks!” She called out with a fake happy smile on her face.
Mirai heard her voice, and stopped immediately. ‘Shit!!’ He thought irritably. He didn’t sense her and he couldn't go home yet if she was near his machine. He sighed and politely walked towards her. ‘She’d better make this quick.’ He thought to himself nervously. He didn’t want Gohan to come after him, if he did then Mirai was sure that he wouldn't be able to control himself.
“Yes?” He asked while they drew nearer to each other.
“Oh, I just wanted to introduce myself, since I didn’t get a chance to before.” She said casually, while sticking out her hand for him to shake. “I’m Videl, Gohan's girlfriend.” She said sweetly.
Mirai politely took her hand into his and introduced himself. “I’m–”
“Mirai Trunks?” She finished for him. When his mouth dropped in the shock that she new who he was, she laughed. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about you. No one in my school would believe me anyway.” She said while still snickering lightly.
Mirai was extremely relieved to hear that. ‘She must be apart of the group then.’ He thought to himself reassuringly, but he still didn’t know what to make of this strange girl that called herself Gohan's girlfriend, when he told him less than a half an hour ago that they weren't dating, so he decided to find out for himself what was really going on.
“So… how long have you and Gohan been dating?” Mirai asked politely, there was still some time left before he had to leave, so he relaxed a little.
Videl smiled lightly. She’d been *trying* to date Gohan for a little over a year now, so she should say that, that’s how long they’ve been dating for. “Oh, just a little over a year now.” She replied casually, before deciding to send this guy away from *her* man for good.
“He’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me, we get along so well! I’m so glad that he’s mine, and I don’t mean to brag, but he was my first too!” She squealed in delight at the lie, but Trunks only took it for the annoying squeal that young girls give off when they are excited or happy about something. His face fell almost all the way to the ground when he heard her say that.
“H-he was?” He choked out in shock.
She just quickly nodded her head happily, ignoring his shocked expression. “Yes, he was! We’re still lovers too! We were even together last night!” She cried out in bliss. Of course it was a lie. She had slept with other people before, but so far Gohan was not one of them, and as far as she knew he was still a virgin. If she had her way though, it wouldn't remain that way for very long.
Trunks just gaped at her in hurtful shock, before he lowered his head slightly so she couldn’t see his eyes. He knew there was nothing to be hurt about, but he still felt…just hurt. He and Gohan weren’t dating, so it’s not like he cheated on him or anything. He supposed that deep down he just wanted his theories about himself and fate to be wrong, but they weren't.
He looked back at Videl's smiling face and inwardly cried out all of his tears. This was the person that Gohan was meant to be with, and he couldn't interfere with that, no matter how much he may want to. But still…why would Gohan lie to him? He said that he and this girl were just good friends and yet here she was, claiming to be his lover. She couldn't know about how he felt for Gohan, so this made things very confusing.
His senses suddenly kicked in, and he could feel Gohan headed straight for them at top speed while he instinctively looked in the direction that he was coming from. ‘I have to get out of here.’ He thought desperately as he looked back down at his love’s koi and forced a small smile. She knew where he was from, so using the time machine in front of her shouldn't be too big of a deal.
“I’m very happy for you and Gohan and I hope the two of you have a good life together. Goodbye now.” He said sadly yet sincerely at the same time, before quickly running towards his time machine and hopping in.
Videl smirked when she knew he couldn't see her. ‘Ya', a good life without you around!’ She thought nastily, while watching the large glowing machine rise into the air.
Everyone ran outside to see what was going on, when they saw the bright glow from the time machine beaming brightly all the way inside. “W-why’s he leaving?” Bulma asked in stunned shock as she watched it get brighter. This just didn’t make any sense! He only arrived that morning!
Finally, Gohan made it back to Capsule Corp, and the bright light being emitted from Trunks’s time machine scared him shitless as he flew to it as fast as he could. “NO! Don’t leave me!!” He cried out desperately while tears streamed down his face. Trunks saw him coming, and placed his palm against the domed glass longingly in his direction. ‘I’m sorry my love, but I can’t stay. Especially now that I know about who you’re really meant to be with.’ He thought as tears of his own began to flow.
Gohan flew even faster than before, but he was still too late. Just as his fingertips were about to brush against the metal of the machine and stop it, it disappeared into nothingness with a flash.
He just hovered there in the air for a moment in complete shock and disbelief, unable to believe that after all of that, he was gone for good. Everyone below on the giant Capsule Corp lawn, watched him curiously, knowing that somehow he was involved in Mirai’s departure.
Gohan just wrapped his arms around himself in complete and utter misery, not knowing what else to do. ‘I scared him away! It’s my fault he’s gone!’ He thought angrily with himself, before quickly flying off in the other direction as fast as he could. He just had to get away from there before people started asking questions.
When he was gone and out of sight, Bulma suddenly gasped with the realization of what just happened. ‘Gohan must have told him that he loved him!’ She thought in shock before that look was soon replaced with pity. ‘Mirai must’ve turned him down. Oh, I’m so sorry, Gohan.’ She thought sadly to herself. She knew about his love for her son from the future ever since the day that he told her that he was gay and she always assumed that the two would get together when they saw each other next. The fact that they wouldn't be doing that anytime soon was a real shock to her system.
Videl just smirked evilly from where she sat, and gave herself a mental pat on the back for a job well done, knowing that the pretty boy from the future wouldn't be messing with *her* life or *her* man anytime soon.
