Chapter 02
Weak.
I am so weak. It’s difficult to breathe as I carry you from the flames.
Their eyes, they’re afraid. What do they see, that makes them step away from us?
Away from me?
They’re so weak. They don’t deserve to live, not when you’re dead.
They don’t deserve life.
Red lightning licks around me as my eyes narrow, a snarl escaping my lips.
It’s not fair, Goten… but I’m going to MAKE it fair.
I hear a snarl pass Gohan’s lips as we emerge from the flames and find my own lips curling in a like sneer.
Look at them. Staring at us like we’re some sort of beasts, backing away.
There’s fear in their eyes.
Good. Because they should be afraid. Heartless beasts – more concerned for their own safety, than the safety of others.
Of you.
I hate them. I thought I knew hate before, but I know it so clearly now, that what before was felt… is nothing but a mild dislike.
They don’t deserve what they have.
I’m going to take it from them.
A look passed between the two men, followed by slow nods. The smaller of the two had a white wind kick up about him, the lightning flicking about the taller not changing.
They only had moments to realize what was going to happen.
Bare moments to scream – before gold, red, white light enveloped them, burning them.
And then there was nothing.
The two men took to the air, carrying their burdens, leaving a swath of smoking corpses and exploding vehicles behind them.
The breeze rustles through your dark hair as we fly toward home. I can see that Trunks is following, carrying his sister.
You loved her, didn’t you? I remember you asking… asking if age made a difference.
I know why he’s following, I know that look in his eyes. Unseeing, purposeful.
We will bury you together.
You never had a chance, did you? You had a lifetime ahead of you and it was stolen.
I couldn't stop it. I’m so sorry Bra, I couldn't keep you safe.
Not like you expected me to.
At least you two can now be together, no matter what our parents think.
Forever together.
They landed atop the highest mountain. It was a place that would be nearly impossible to climb to, visited only by birds, and sunlight.
They lay their beloved burdens beside each other, before wordlessly digging a deep grave. Before laying the two within, in each other’s arms.
Together.
Sunset lit the top of the mountain as the earth was pushed into that grave.
Sunset back lit the figures that came to confront them.
Night fell and the battle began.
Of all people, I would think our father would have understood what it meant to lose someone you care about. I would have thought he was here to mourn.
Not to pick fights about what I did.
I've been killing since I was a toddler. I’m the strongest being in the universe.
What’s one more life to add to the balance?
I always known he hated me. Hated me for being so human-like. For being his son.
Now, I know he would hated me more because I didn’t protect his precious daughter.
His princess.
Well, there’s a new Prince of Saiyajins now, Father.
And you’re no longer worthy of the throne.
Rage fueled them, gave them strength to fuel the fires of their vengeance against the living world.
Rage gave them power, insanity let them fight without guilt.
Without holding back, as their fathers did. Fathers who wanted desperately to salvage their sons.
Fathers… who now lay at the bottom of two craters, holes blasted through them.
Gone.
“It’s the Kai’s fault,” Gohan decided. “They could have prevented this and they didn’t.”
“They let this happen,” Trunks agreed, looking up at the night sky, toward where the supreme beings had their home.
“I think we should thank them for their generosity.”
“We should repay in kind, shouldn't we?”
The two nodded, flying swiftly toward Capsule Corp… and the spaceship that resided there.
