022 : The Pact

Trunks sighed. “Yes, I understand. I just…” He shook his head not finding words to express what he felt. There was no anger just huge disappointment.

Goku nodded. He patted the teen’s shoulder soothingly. “It’s for his own good. If he doesn’t get strong enough in time, he will be killed. Do you want to be responsible for his death? For my son’s death?”

The hand on Trunks’ shoulder suddenly felt heavy. Stunned, he stared at Goku’s face. The usually happy-go-lucky man was dead-serious. Trunks would have never thought that Goku was capable of such a fierce solemnity.

“No, I don’t,” Trunks muttered. “Of course, I don’t,”

“Then, instead of getting in my way, help me,” Goku said. “Help me make him strong enough to survive.”

There was nothing else Trunks would have wanted better.
