He is not unconscious, delirious, or too injured to choose what happens next. He looks up at Gohan and remains where he is. That matters. For someone whose life has trained him to endure pain alone, being held while fully aware may be more vulnerable than collapsing.
The medical kit, lantern, sword, and discarded Capsule Corp jacket create a small grammar of survival around them. Nothing has become safe. The city outside is still broken. The sword is still within reach. The light is temporary. Care here is not a reward waiting after the apocalypse; it is one of the techniques required to survive it.
Gohan’s hand across Trunks’s torso is the detail that anchors the image for me. It does not feel possessive. It feels diagnostic and reassuring at once, as though he is checking breath, pain, and presence through the same touch.

That may be the only promise he can honestly make.

So I do not read this as the moment trust becomes intimacy.
I think trust was already there.
