From a small crater that his own falling body had made Gohan watched his father go on to fight Trunks. The scorching heat from the lava was seeping in, and Gohan upped his ki-shield. The look of enjoyment on Goku’s face was unmistakable. As long as he had an opponent of a similar level, nothing else mattered.

When his father had lain in sickbed, Gohan’s only wish had been for him to recover. Trunks had fulfilled that wish, but he had also taken his father and his affections away. On the other hand, that, obviously, hadn’t been a difficult thing to do at all.
