Gohan didn’t expect anything but at the same time was hopeful about himself taking third place just as Trunks. He felt quite competitive at the moment since his ego had received a boost. Someone else’s name was called for the third place, and Gohan’s hope collapsed while his excitement mounted higher. Maybe a miracle would happen and he would be second? He wasn’t second, however, as someone named Kawasaki Riku took that place. Gohan stared at the judges intently. Him placing first would probably result in Armageddon, but who cared? Let him be first! Hoping to somehow influence the decision of the judges, he closed his eyes and chanted his own name. And then his mouth dropped when he really heard his name being called. Stunned, he looked at the back of the stage where Trunks gave him a thumbs up.
