Only now, after having entered his father’s room together with the stranger who claimed to have a cure for his father’s illness, did Gohan understand how grave the situation was. His mother had always been positive and reassuring about the illness being just a temporary hiccup in his father’s otherwise perfect health. Gohan now realized how big a lie that had been.

If the story they both had been told about the tragic future was true, their only option was to follow the stranger’s instructions. His mother seemed to have already been convinced.

Quietly, Gohan watched the medicine being administered to his half-conscious father. Together with this medicine they had made a promise and accepted the responsibility of a better future. Gohan, however, hardly cared about that. He was just grateful to see how gently and carefully the stranger was treating his father.
